Press that button to restart the router. Once it is back up again, connect to your WiFi and see if the issue is still there. Chromecast devices are a great way to stream your favorite content from your smartphone to your TV. They’re relatively inexpensive and easy to use. When you plug your Chromecast device into your TV, your phone becomes a remote control and you can use it to stream different apps or videos on the big screen. It’s quite handy, and the only thing you need is a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection.
But I turned it off on every single network card, wired, wireless, virtual. The casts immediately returned to operation for my HassOS VM. I’m having the same problems as OP. I use the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X and an Unifi AC-AP pro. All devices are on the LAN network, no VLANs configured. I’ve VLans but currenty not for Home Assistant or one of my Chromecast / Google devices.
Perform a factory reset
Then, you can move on to the more complicated fix like resetting the device. Before moving on to the major fixes, make sure the Chromecast device is turned on. You can leave it turned on the whole time as it consumes significantly low amount of power. There isn’t a single reason to pinpoint which explains why exactly you are unable to find Chromecast.
Your device, your smartphone and your Google Home, are all connected to the same network. If you’re casting content from the Chrome browser on your computer, you may have noticed that certain Chromecast controls are missing from your preferred sites. This may be because there’s a new version of Chrome that you need to update to. Sign in by following instructions and check if the Chromecast appears in the bottom section among other devices. The next thing to try is reinstalling the Google Home app. Chances are that the app itself is the problem, considering we tackled basically everything else in the previous steps.
Check for Interference Between the Router and Chromecast
After that, you can plug it back in and go through the setup process to see if that bore any fruit. Another option is to reset your Chromecast gadget to its factory settings. You don’t have to worry about losing your data – the only thing you’ll need to do is to set up the device again. Resetting Chromecast to the factory settings is simple – press the button on the back of the gadget and hold for around 20 seconds. Finally, if none of the previous steps worked, the only thing we can recommend is resetting your Chromecast to factory settings. Since, in this case, you can’t use the Google Home app to reset Chromecast, you can try with the on-device physical reset option.
I can add them via the configuration.yaml, but then I don’t see my groups what I have created. Sign in again with the same account, open Google Home, and see if the Chromecast appears. Finally, follow the instructions on your TV screen. Choose an email account that you want to link to the Chromecast device. This method will work for Chromecast 2nd generation, 3rd generation, and Ultra.
Reasons for Not Finding Chromecast on Your Devices
Connect the mobile device and your TV to the same network. If you use a dual-band wireless router, ensure your devices are connected to the same frequency. Another thing you can do is to update the router’s firmware – if there’s an update available. If this isn’t the cause for you not being able to connect your Chromecast device to your Google Home app, at least you’ll be safe while online. First, try restarting your phone, or your modem and router by disconnecting them for a few seconds and then turning them back on.
Make sure the WiFi and Google Home are visible and in range. If any of these two devices are out of range, put your Chromecast near them and make sure they’re connected. Still, if this doesn’t work, then don’t give up hope yet, because we’ve got more options to try.
From the Chromecast device
Therefore, you could be experiencing the Chromecast issue due to a poor network connection. If connecting both the devices to the same network doesn’t solve your problem, you can move on to this method. We recommend you wait for at least 30 seconds to make sure that the device is turned off completely. After plugging in the Chromecast to the power source, it will reboot and update automatically. Since there is no physical button for on/off on the device itself, you can unplug its charger from the power source to turn it off. Furthermore, make sure that your Chromecast device is in closer proximity to the router and reposition them if necessary.
Connect your phone to the name of your Chromecast on Wi-Fi then set it up on the google home app. Press and hold the reset button until the Chromecast LED emits orange light. This method will restore the Chromecast device to its default settings.
If you are using android then turn on wifi, bluetooth and location and open the google home app. Be within 10 meters from your chromecast and that should be all. If switching your phone to airplane mode does not fix the issue for you, there are chances that the issue is being caused by your network connection. Unfortunately, simply toggling the WiFi connection on your phone won’t do the trick here.
Check it for system updates and install them if available. A majority of Chromecast devices require you to tap a Cast button within each Chromecast-compatible app. Cast controls are essential to the Chromecast experience, but sometimes the Cast feature can disappear from your mobile device.
